Tofu, also known as bean curd or soy paneer, is a vegetarian food item. Prepared from soy milk, coagulation the soy milk, then filtered and pressed to make bean curd, soy paneer or tofu. Tofu is a similar-looking cheese, but has a different taste, soy paneer is used to make a variety of dishes. Bean Curd, Soy Paneer or Tofu has a very spongy texture, so it absorbs the flavor of the spices used in the dish and makes the dish very tasty. It is vegetarian as produced by soy milk but is often considered as an alternative to meat. Soy Paneer is as rich in protein as cheese but has fewer calories which is good. Soy Paneer is also a good source of iron, it also contains calcium and magnesium but the amount is depends on the coagulant (calcium sulfate, calcium chloride or magnesium sulfate) used to make tofu.
